The two have been together for almost four decades, and the story of how it all began is beautiful. Yet they never married, and to this day, the couple has no plans to officially tie the knot. Why? Goldie Hawn has a very clear explanation.
Goldie and Kurt have been together for 41 years. They’ve both been big-screen superstars for decades and have shared a loving relationship along with deep devotion to their family.
The iconic, long-lasting couple’s commitment to each other is remarkable, and their love story over the years is even more extraordinary. Goldie and Kurt first met in 1966 while filming The Only and Only, Genuine Original Family Band. Hawn recalled the meeting in an interview with BBC Radio 4.

“I was 21 and he was 16,” Hawn said. “I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later, we met again, and I remembered how much I liked him when we first met. We both said we would never date another actor, so it just shows you never can tell.”
How did Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell meet?
At first, they weren’t ready to start dating. Goldie Hawn married actor Gus Trikonis in 1969, but the couple separated after four years. She was granted a divorce in June 1976 and married Bill Hudson a few weeks later—a marriage that lasted six years.
In 1983, Russell and Hawn met again while filming Swing Shift. This time, the charming and handsome Russell tried to impress her with the line: “Man, you’ve got a great figure.”
“I was severely hungover and didn’t really know Goldie beyond working with her years before,” Russell said in a 2017 interview with Conan O’Brien.
“I didn’t know what I was going to see, and she had a great body. So the first thing that came out was, ‘Man, you’ve got a great figure.’ It came out fast, and it could’ve gone wrong—but she said, ‘Why thank you.’”
At the time, Goldie had two children from her marriage to Bill Hudson. Her son Oliver was born in 1976, and her daughter Kate was born in 1979.
While filming Swing Shift, Kurt and Goldie went out together one night after work. He took her to The Playboy Club, where they spent hours talking. Later, they decided to continue the evening at a new house Hawn had bought—but she didn’t have the keys, which led to the two breaking in.

“He sat next to you first, Oliver, and watched you sleep. Then he came to me—I think he watched me the longest,” Kate explained.

To celebrate seven years together, Kurt gave her a ring she wore on her wedding finger, and the couple even held a small ceremony.
