It has now been over a week since the American and Israeli joint airstrikes on Iran. The strikes also resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28.
Since then, Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting American assets and allies in the region, including Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. The conflict has continued to escalate.
The Pentagon has identified several U.S. service members who have since been killed. The seventh American personnel lost was 26‑year‑old Army Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington. Earlier, President Donald Trump met with the families of the six soldiers who died during the transfer ritual at Dover Air Force Base.
This is the ceremony in which American service members killed in combat are returned home. The six fallen service members died when an “unmanned aircraft system” evaded air defenses and struck a command center in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, on March 1.
According to reports, the fallen soldiers have been identified as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54; Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, 45; Capt. Cody Khork, 35; Sgt. Noah Tietjens, 42; Sgt. Nicole Amor, 39; and Sgt. Declan Coady, 20.
“These men and women all bravely volunteered to defend our country, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll said in a public statement.
President Trump said the deaths were very sad and promised to keep American casualties in the conflict to a minimum.
While speaking to the media, he was asked how many U.S. casualties he was willing to withstand, which prompted him to discuss his meeting with the families of those killed.
He said, “When you have conflicts like this, you always have death. And I was at Dover [Delaware] yesterday. I met the parents, and they were unbelievable people.”
He added, “They were unbelievable people, but they all had one thing in common. They said to me one thing, every single one: ‘Finish the job, sir, please finish the job.’”
This comes after the President told CBS News, “I think the war is very complete, pretty much,” adding that the country was “very far ahead of schedule.”
He also said, “[Iran has] no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”
The President added that all he wanted was an end to the war: “Wrapping up is all in my mind, nobody else’s.”
