President Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on the disappearance of TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, calling the ordeal “terrible.”
During a press briefing on Tuesday, February 3, Trump was asked about the situation that has dominated U.S. headlines over the past few days.
Nancy has been missing since Saturday, January 3, and local police have not ruled out the possibility that she was abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills, north of Tucson, Arizona.
Police have searched for the 84‑year‑old both from the air and on the ground. On Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that the case is now being treated as a criminal investigation.
“At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night. Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction,” Nanos said.
“We have an 84‑year‑old woman who went to bed Saturday night and come Sunday morning, she’s gone,” the county sheriff continued. “We know — at least we believe, and I believe we know — she did not walk out of that home on her own.” Authorities also revealed that blood was found inside the home.

In response to a question about the situation, Trump said he planned to call TODAY host Savannah Guthrie.
“I think it’s terrible,” Trump told reporters. “I’m going to call her later on.”
He added, “It’s a terrible thing. I always get along well with Savannah. Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out…” The President also pledged to extend federal assistance to Arizona law enforcement in their efforts to bring Nancy safely home.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Nanos urged the public to come forward with any information about Nancy’s whereabouts, noting that she suffers from several health issues that make locating her quickly even more critical.
“We don’t need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help,” Nanos said.
“This is an 84‑year‑old lady who suffers from physical ailments, has physical challenges, and needs medication — medication that, if she doesn’t have within 24 hours, could be fatal.”
Savannah Guthrie was absent from the Today show on Monday but thanked everyone for their support. Later, on Instagram, the 54‑year‑old posted a photo with the caption, “Please Pray.”
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” Guthrie wrote.
“Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
The post concluded, “We need you. He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” A verse from Isaiah for all time, for all of us. Bring her home.”
