9‑year‑old William Gierke from Wisconsin was really proud of his T‑shirt.
But he came home from school crying and heartbroken.
His classmates had bullied him and called him a “sissy” — all because the T‑shirt was pink. William had chosen it to show support for cancer sufferers, a cause close to his heart.
“Tough Guys Wear Pink” was printed across the shirt, which was sold to raise money for a breast cancer charity. Sadly, his classmates weren’t kind about it. William was teased and mocked for wearing pink.
William’s mom, Tomi, was devastated when she saw her son come home choking back tears. The cruel comments made him not want to return to school the next day. She didn’t know how to help him — but thankfully, William had a very attentive teacher…
The teacher took a stand against bullying with a kind gesture
When William returned to school the next morning, he braced himself for more teasing. But then he saw what his teacher, David Winter, was wearing.
The teacher had noticed how much William had suffered because of his T‑shirt — so he decided to wear a pink shirt himself to show solidarity.
It may seem like a small gesture, but to William, it meant everything. And more importantly, it sent a clear message to all students: bullying someone for their clothing is never acceptable.
“I feel more comfortable, I don’t let it bother me anymore,” William said after his teacher stood up for him.
