Mom spots ‘God’s hand’ cradling her baby’s head in an ultrasound

In what’s being described as a modern-day miracle, a Kentucky mother says her unborn baby was touched by the “hand of God” — and she has the ultrasound to prove it.

In April 2022, Amanda Foster, now 33, shared an ultrasound image with friends on Facebook, announcing that her unborn son Jay had “healthy kidneys, no cysts, and perfect blood flow to and from.”

She added that the baby was “Potter syndrome free,” which, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is a rare condition affecting the development and function of a baby’s kidneys and other internal organs. It is life-threatening, and many infants have a short life expectancy.

‘More common in males’
For Foster, her fears of Potter syndrome began at 17, when she tragically lost her first child at just 20 weeks.

“My thought at that time was, ‘Well, if God is going to take my son, He will take me too!’” Foster shared in a Facebook post, recalling her grief over losing her first son, Xavier. “It didn’t work out that way, and I developed deep resentment and anger toward God. If that wasn’t enough, I was later told it was very unlikely I would ever have a healthy baby boy since Potter syndrome is more common in males.”

Foster and her husband Kyle later welcomed two healthy daughters. The couple then had their first son, baby Jay, in August 2022.

‘Pray over Kyler’
Now, the mother of three is pregnant again with another boy, whom they plan to name Kyler.

Early in the pregnancy, doctors discovered a serious heart defect — an aortic septum abnormality that could threaten his life.

As she approached a late May scan during her high-risk pregnancy, Foster wrote in a Facebook post that “each time before ultrasounds I’ve dropped to my knees right in the doctor’s office to pray over Kyler.”

“In my prayers for him, I’ve repeatedly asked the Lord to keep His hand on my baby and, whatever His plan may be, to help me trust it fully and find peace.”

‘Hand’ on her baby
Her daughter Bailey joined her at the appointment, hoping to help ease the anxiety she had been feeling.

But the tension quickly turned to shock when the young girl noticed something unusual in the image.

“I had an ultrasound yesterday. My youngest daughter Bailey was the first to notice it and asked me whose hand that was,” Foster wrote in her now-viral Facebook post. The post included a black-and-white image of the ultrasound, showing what she believes to be a divine presence — a large hand appearing to cradle her baby’s head. She added: “In one of his pictures, it looks like a hand holding his head.”

Foster said the image brought her to tears, reflecting on “all [God] has done and continues to do for me. I couldn’t imagine life without Him!”

‘Chunky boy’
On June 20, she shared another update, revealing that at 36 weeks, her healthy baby boy weighed over 7 pounds.

“Our chunky boy is going to be the biggest baby I’ve ever had. Today they monitored his practice breathing. Overall, his measurements are about a week and a half ahead. His heart rate was 132 today. His sweet little face — I can’t wait to hold him in my arms!” she wrote.

For Amanda Foster, this ultrasound is more than just an image — it’s a reminder that even after loss, anger, and despair, healing is possible.
