Now, Kardashian is opening up about how she has to “manage certain things from the outside world.”
She sat down with her sister, Khloe Kardashian, on the podcast Khloe in Wonderland. When asked about her oldest child, she responded, “No one knows unless they’re in my shoes what I’m dealing with.”
North West has been active on social media, posting videos and photos of her “shark teeth,” her blue hair, and various body modifications such as piercings on her face and body. These included images of a dermal piercing on her middle finger that drew significant attention online.
Kim Kardashian faced public backlash over the piercings and the potential health risks they posed to her 12‑year‑old daughter. However, the piercings were later revealed to be fake.
North, for her part, seems fully aware of how the public perceives her and even released a song titled “Piercing on My Hand (Ye Version)” with lyrics such as: “All my friends are hits, you know I’m not lazy / You’re so angry that I’m so mainstream. I’m not sure I’m crazy / I want more piercings and tats / I love blue hair put it in some plaits / Put the music to the max / I want like a hundred thousand racks.”
Kim shared that many people believe she tries to act more like her daughter’s friend than her mother, allowing her to get away with too much. She said people assume, “‘Oh, she’s trying to be her bestie’ and lets her get away with a lot.”
“Like, no. Northy actually has a lot of rules. The one area where I do give her freedom is in expressing herself, and I let her do that. I love that about her, and she would do it regardless,” the mother of four explained.
“It’s funny — people say, ‘Oh, this blue hair all of a sudden,’ or comment on her fake piercings. I have pictures from first grade, pre‑K, where she’d show up with a fake septum ring and green braids or pink braids,” Kardashian recalled.
“But she’s always loved colorful braids in her hair since she was little,” Kim added.
Kim Kardashian, who is studying to become a lawyer, is also homeschooling North. She says she gives her daughter many practical courses designed to prepare her for real‑world responsibilities.
“She really is who she is and always has been that girl, and I nurture that,” Kim said.
“She is homeschooled, and a lot of it involves me helping her with the lessons and activities we do. But we focus on realistic courses — things she’s genuinely interested in. For math, we’ll create budgets, go around adding and subtracting everything, and she even has a brand‑building class. It’s an actual course with a curriculum.”
