Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny was tapped to perform at the Super Bowl’s highly anticipated halftime show. He famously wore an outfit from the budget‑friendly brand Zara, and it turns out the look carried a lot of meaning that many people missed.
The Spanish clothing brand shared a statement praising the singer: “It was an amazing show. Benito put on a memorable performance. What a great outfit.”
Storm Pablo and Marvin Douglas Linares styled the “CYBERTRUCK” singer, who chose a fully cream ensemble with a jersey‑style top on Sunday. The outfit featured the name “Ocasio,” Bad Bunny’s surname, along with a large “64.”
Many wondered what the number meant, with some speculating it was the year his mother was born. However, it was later revealed to be the birth year of his late uncle.
The singer told Rolling Stone, “1964 is the year my uncle Cutito, my mom’s brother, was born. What little I know about the NFL is thanks to him.”
“He left for the United States to work when he was 17 and never returned to live in Puerto Rico, although he always visited us in late January or early February and stayed at our house. That was right in the middle of the NFL postseason, so I always watched the games with him. He was a huge San Francisco 49ers fan — the team whose home stadium is where Super Bowl 60 was held, the one I performed at.”
Bad Bunny said he had always dreamed of taking his uncle to the Super Bowl but never got the chance due to his sudden passing two years ago. His death was “unexpected and without warning.”
Bad Bunny added, “So, for my Super Bowl halftime show, I decided to have him on my shirt: OCASIO, his last name, the same as my mom’s, and his birth year, 1964.
“I dedicated my show to him before it started. I’m sure he appreciated it. He saw it, he was there, and he was proud of his nephew. Now all that’s left is for the 49ers to win another Super Bowl.”
People have since reacted online to the touching meaning behind his Super Bowl ensemble.
This is such a beautiful tribute to his late uncle. What do you think of it? Share your thoughts in the comments on Facebook.
