When you hear the name David Caruso, a faint memory probably comes to mind because it sounds familiar. If you watched television in the 1990s and early 2000s, then you likely know exactly who he is.
Caruso was born on January 7, 1956, in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. His parents divorced when he was young, and Caruso grew up in a single-parent household. He was determined to make something of himself.
Some of his early work included Hill Street Blues, First Blood (1982), and An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). These roles were relatively small, and while they helped him develop his craft as an actor, they were not what made him a recognizable face on television.
He got his breakout role in NYPD Blue. In 1993, Caruso was cast as Detective John Kelly in the hit television show. The series became a major success, earning him widespread recognition and admiration, along with a Golden Globe nomination. Although David Caruso’s time on the show was short-lived—he left after one season amid reports of disputes over salary and creative control—it was certainly memorable. His decision was criticized by many and is often seen as a negative turning point in his professional life.
After leaving NYPD Blue, he tried to move into film acting but did not find much success. He appeared in movies like Jade (1995) and Kiss of Death (1995), both of which failed to make much of an impact commercially.
In 2002, Caruso made a major comeback in CSI: Miami as Horatio Caine. The show became a huge hit, and his character was loved for his one-liners and cool demeanor. CSI: Miami ran for ten seasons and helped Caruso solidify his place in television history.
However, when the actor was spotted recently, many people were surprised by his appearance. Of course, he has aged since his Hollywood days. He stepped away from acting after finishing CSI: Miami, which may have contributed to a more relaxed lifestyle.
There have been no reports of health issues involving the actor. So, the most likely reason for his changed appearance is simply natural aging, especially since it has been quite some time since most people last saw him on television.
