On September 3, 2018, Officer Cooper and a sergeant responded to a report of shoplifting at a local retail store. While apprehending two individuals in the parking lot, a third suspect fled the scene. The two officers split up to pursue the escapee. The sergeant later reported hearing two gunshots and discovered Officer Cooper had been injured.
In a remarkable journey of resilience, Officer Cooper, a veteran of the military, faced significant challenges after an incident that left him with a severe head injury. Initially rushed to the Atlanta Medical Center, he was later transferred to Grady Hospital for specialized care following the unfortunate events involving a third suspect, who tragically took their own life.
