Jim Carrey made a rare appearance at a major public event earlier this year, something he seldom does anymore. However, his appearance led many people to feel that something didn’t seem right.
Now, his ex, Jenny McCarthy, is speaking out. Keep reading to learn more.
Jim Carrey faced major online scrutiny after appearing on February 26, 2026, at the 51st César Awards in Paris. His ex-girlfriend Jenny McCarthy is now addressing the situation directly.
Actress Jenny McCarthy reportedly dated Jim Carrey from 2005 to 2010. She responded to rumors suggesting that Carrey had not attended the event and had been replaced by a “clone.”
“It was definitely Jim Carrey,” the actress clarified.
Rather than focusing on the rumors, she spoke about Carrey himself, saying he “looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him. That’s the first thing I noticed.”
She added, “You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss.”
Her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, who attended the event with her, agreed, saying, “We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”
The rumor, which gained traction online, suggested that Carrey’s appearance at the César Awards in Paris pointed to something more sinister—that he had been replaced. He was honored at the ceremony for his contributions to film.
At the event, Carrey delivered much of his acceptance speech in French, something he reportedly prepared months in advance. He attended with his partner, his daughter, his grandson, and close friends.
Many people commented that he looked “unrecognizable,” noting that his face appeared fuller, his skin looked different, and his overall appearance led some to believe he had undergone plastic surgery.
“what happened to his face???” one person wrote on X. “What have you freaks done with Jim Carey? That is not him,” another asked. One comment read, “It looks like the Madame Tussauds wax version.”
Others didn’t see the issue, with one person writing, “He looks exactly how I’d expect him to look 20 years after last seeing him. He’s just had a bit of Botox and cheek fillers. Not that shocking, and he looks fine to me. We all age.”
The discussion gained more attention when drag performer and makeup artist Alexis Stone claimed on Instagram that they were responsible for the appearance.
They posted a photo showing a Carrey mask along with makeup tools and a hairpiece, captioned, “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
However, it was unclear whether Alexis Stone was joking. Others investigated and pointed out that the image appeared to be AI-generated and intended to capitalize on the viral moment.
After the incident, Carrey’s management team issued a statement confirming that it was indeed him at the event.
The statement read, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
César Awards general delegate Grégory Caulier also addressed the rumors, calling them a “non-issue.”
He explained that Carrey had been invited months in advance and that everything had been carefully planned. “He worked on his speech in French for months,” Caulier said.
