“I packed up my car with snacks and a humane dog trap and headed out at midnight,” Hall recounted to The Dodo. “She was stranded in a remote area, on a narrow, deserted road. I knew I had to find her.”
Despite the darkness, Hall was determined to locate the distressed dog. It was a glint of reflection from Moonie’s eyes that finally guided her. “I saw her by her eyes,” Hall recalled with emotion. “That’s when we named her Moonie, because it was the moonlight that allowed me to spot her.” Moonie’s physical state told a tale of neglect and hardship. “She was skin and bones, draped in an old, filthy jacket,” Hall described, initially mistaking her skeletal appearance for that of a coyote due to her extreme thinness.
Moonie’s condition was heartbreaking; she was afflicted with mange, scabies, and an overpowering odor that spoke volumes about her suffering. “When I got her that night, she smelled so bad,” Hall shared. Despite the discomfort and challenges, Hall remained steadfast by Moonie’s side, providing comfort and reassurance during a sleepless night in her car until the morning when veterinary help became available.
Once at the vet’s office, Moonie received a comprehensive evaluation and embarked on a rigorous six-week treatment plan to address her multiple health issues. The road to recovery was daunting, but Moonie’s resilience shone through as she responded positively to the care and attention she received.
After completing her treatment, Moonie transitioned into foster care. Her lovable personality quickly endeared her to those around her. “She spent time in two different foster homes,” Hall explained. “During her second foster stay, they were considering putting her up for adoption, but her foster mom couldn’t bear to part with her. It was clear Moonie had found her forever home.”
Now settled into a life filled with love and stability, Moonie thrives in her new environment by the beach. “She looks like the most beautiful dog you’ve ever seen now,” Hall proudly stated. “She deserves the world, and her story deserves to be shared.”
