The NASCAR community is in shock. Iconic driver Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion, has reportedly passed away at the age of 41, according to statements shared online.
NASCAR shared the heartbreaking news of Kyle Busch’s reported passing on social media late Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, though reports claim he had been hospitalized earlier this week with a “severe illness.”
“We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport’s greatest and fiercest drivers. Throughout a career spanning more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR’s highest level, and helped foster the next generation of drivers as a Truck Series team owner. His sharp wit and competitive spirit created a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, building the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation.’”
Legendary NASCAR driver Kyle Busch dies at 41 after suffering “severe illness”
The statement continued: “Our thoughts are with Samantha, Brexton and Lennix, Kyle and Samantha’s parents, Kurt, and all of Kyle’s family, Richard and Judy Childress, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, his teammates, friends, and fans. NASCAR lost a giant of the sport today, far too soon.”
Born on May 2, 1985, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Kyle Busch discovered his passion for racing at an early age. He first drove around his family’s property in a go-kart before spending countless hours in the garage with his older brother, Kurt Busch, learning from their father.
By the age of 13, Kyle had already proven himself to be a rising talent. Competing in Legends car racing, he captured two championships early in his career.
Kyle Busch spent more than two decades building one of the most remarkable careers in motorsports. His rapid rise began after earning NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2004, an early sign of the success to come. Not long afterward, Busch advanced to the NASCAR Cup Series, where he cemented his place among the sport’s elite. Driving the iconic No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, Busch won two Cup Series championships — first in 2015 and again in 2019 — securing his legacy as one of NASCAR’s most recognizable stars.

95 combined victories with his brother
Kyle Busch and his brother Kurt went on to make history together. By 2023, they had officially surpassed the legendary Allison family to become NASCAR’s winningest brothers, with an incredible 95 combined NASCAR Cup Series victories.
As recently as last weekend, Busch reminded fans why he remained one of the sport’s greatest competitors. Racing at Dover International Speedway, he led 147 of 200 laps on his way to securing his fifth Truck Series victory. After the race, Busch celebrated with his signature deep bow — a gesture longtime fans instantly recognized.
Kyle Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha Busch, and their children, Brexton and Lennix.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. May he rest in peace.
