Tim Petit, from Middletown, Rhode Island, heard an ad for a $640 pink limited‑edition Trump watch from GetTrumpWatches.com and decided to surprise his wife, Melanie. But the excitement quickly turned into disappointment when the watch arrived, according to NBC10.
“I just thought it was really nice. It was beautiful. And I knew it would be something she’d like,” Petit told NBC10. “One of 250 — that attracted me. With the president’s voice promoting the watches, I was curious, so I went to the website.”
Since taking office, President Donald Trump has sold various items — watches, Bibles, phones — while Melania Trump has also earned money from licensed products. This has sparked debate about whether a sitting president should sell merchandise, though the White House denies claims that Trump profited from his time in office.
Regarding the limited‑edition watch, Trump’s voice can be heard in promotional videos saying, “It’s Trump time.”

When the watch finally arrived, Petit presented the pink Inauguration First Lady model to his wife. But the moment they opened it, they noticed something was wrong.
“It has a nice little case. It has the pink and little fireworks on it,” Melanie told NBC10. “But it didn’t take long before we realized something was missing.”
“I noticed it right away,” she said. “The T is missing. It just says R‑U‑M‑P.”
Instead of “TRUMP,” the watch face read “RUMP.”
“I’m very disappointed. I wanted to do something special for her,” Petit said. “And we expected it would have the integrity of the President of the United States and good follow‑through.”
He added, “An apology would be nice for making my wife cry.”
GetTrumpWatches.com markets its products as “official watches” of President Trump, though the fine print states the Trump name and likeness are only licensed.

The site also notes the watches are not designed, made, or sold by Trump, the Trump Organization, or any related entities.
Petit tried repeatedly to contact the company but received no response. After NBC10 reached out to customer service, the situation finally moved forward.
Petit ultimately received a replacement watch. The company apologized and offered him an $800 coupon for another item.
