During a speech earlier this week, the President honored several iconic women, including former First Lady Martha Washington, Betsy Ross (credited with creating the first U.S. flag), aviator Amelia Earhart, and singer Aretha Franklin. However, the remarks soon took an unexpected turn.

He stated, “The Trump administration is working every single day to make America better, safer, and more prosperous for women… and men. But much more importantly for women. They are really the inspiration. They are so, so powerful and so important and so beautiful.”

Trump then revealed that there is a word he says he is “not allowed” to use because it could end his political career. “I’m not allowed to use the word beautiful, but I’m using it anyway. Usually, it’s the end of your political career. If you say a woman’s a beautiful woman, they say that’s the termination of his career,” he said.

He continued, “But somehow, it hasn’t hurt too much. You are incredible women, and you’re beautiful women.”

Earlier in the event, Melania Trump delivered her own remarks, describing herself as a “visionary” and referencing her Melania documentary. The film was acquired by Amazon for $40 million but earned roughly $16 million worldwide at the box office.

Critically, the documentary received an 11 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audience reception was much more favorable at 98 percent. Directed by Brett Ratner—his first project after facing sexual harassment allegations in 2017, which he continues to deny—the documentary reflects Melania’s creative involvement.

Speaking at the event, Melania said, “As a visionary, I know success is not born overnight, but rather takes shape after a long and sometimes challenging process.” She added, “Often alone at the top, I follow my passion, listen to my instinct, and always maintain a laser focus. In solitude, my creative mind dances, filling my imagination with originality.”

She further discussed her documentary: “In my new film, I shaped its creative direction, served as a producer, managed its post-production, and activated the marketing campaign.”

President Trump also expressed frustration over not receiving enough credit for certain accomplishments, saying, “We have the Olympics and we have the World Cup coming up… I did the Olympics, I got the Olympics, then I got the World Cup, then I got 250 [year celebration], but I’ve never been given credit for that.”
