Donald Trump discloses what he calls a “significant gift” from Iran

Donald Trump has revealed what he describes as the “very significant” gift he claims to have received from Iran — a mystery he had been teasing for days as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

For nearly a week, Trump hinted that Tehran had offered something that proved it was serious about peace talks. Now, he says the “gift” came in the form of oil shipments moving through one of the world’s most sensitive waterways.

During a cabinet meeting, Trump said Iran allowed multiple oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“They said, ‘To show you the fact that we’re real and solid, we’re going to let you have eight big boats of oil,’” he said.

He added that he later saw news reports showing “eight boats that are going right up the middle of the Hormuz Strait,” suggesting the move signaled progress in negotiations. Trump also claimed the vessels appeared to be Pakistan‑flagged.

But so far, there has been no independent confirmation of the tankers, and Iranian officials have firmly rejected the story, calling Trump’s claims “fake news.”

Trump teased the “present” days earlier

Earlier in the week, Trump had already fueled speculation when he first mentioned the mysterious gift.

“They’re gonna make a deal. They did something yesterday that was amazing, actually. They gave us a present, and the present arrived today. It was a very big present, worth a tremendous amount of money,” he said at the White House.

“I’m not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize.”

Trump said the gesture showed “we’re dealing with the right people,” and claimed Iran had agreed it would “never have a nuclear weapon.” Iranian officials have denied that as well.

Deadline extended as talks continue

Trump has now pushed back his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, extending it by 10 days to April 6.

On Truth Social, he wrote:

“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time.”

He added that talks were “going very well,” despite what he called inaccurate reporting.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Iran had actually asked for a shorter extension.

“I gave them a 10‑day period, they asked for seven.”

Despite the uncertainty, Trump struck a confident tone, saying:

“In a certain sense, we have already won.”

Still no verification

With Iran denying any such gesture and no independent evidence of the alleged tankers, questions remain about what exactly happened — and whether this marks a genuine breakthrough or simply another twist in an already volatile standoff.
