President Donald Trump is once again making headlines for his comments about pop icon Taylor Swift—and now, the White House is stepping in.
The former president recently posted on his platform, Truth Social, claiming that Swift is “no longer hot.” This isn’t the first time Trump has taken aim at the Grammy-winning artist, and his latest remarks have sparked backlash and raised questions during a recent press briefing.
During a White House press conference, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked for clarification about Trump’s post:
“What does President Trump mean when he says that Taylor Swift is no longer hot?”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded, saying,
“Look, he is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work. I’ll leave it at that.”
Just days before the press conference, Trump wrote on Truth Social,
“Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
This message was a follow-up to a previous post he made in September 2024, after Swift spoke out against AI-generated fake images of her being used in political ads to promote Trump’s campaign. Around that same time, Swift had publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris during a televised debate—something that didn’t sit well with Trump.
Taylor Swift’s political activism isn’t new. In 2018, she broke her long-standing silence on politics in a powerful Instagram post. She wrote:
“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now… I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening, and prevalent.”
Swift continued by strongly opposing then-Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn, stating:
“I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me… She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act… She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples and that they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values.”
Swift concluded her post by urging her fans to educate themselves and vote for candidates who reflect their beliefs, even if there’s no perfect match.
Since then, Swift has remained outspoken about politics, encouraging civic engagement and promoting voter turnout—especially among young Americans.
So far, the pop star hasn’t responded to Trump’s most recent comments. But given her track record of standing up for her values, a response may just be a matter of time.
