UK prime minister’s awkward response to Trump labeling his ‘friend’ as‘nasty’

During a recent visit to the UK, former U.S. President Donald Trump met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland to discuss global issues including tariffs, the war in Ukraine, and the Gaza crisis. However, the visit took an awkward turn during a press conference in Edinburgh when Trump criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him “a nasty person” and claiming he had done “a terrible job.” Unbeknownst to Trump, Khan is a close friend of Starmer, who quickly responded, “He’s a friend of mine,” visibly disagreeing with Trump’s remarks.

Despite the tension, Trump praised UK-U.S. relations and complimented Starmer’s family, saying he respected the Prime Minister more after meeting his wife. Trump is scheduled to return to the UK in September for a State Visit, where he will meet King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The announcement of Trump’s upcoming visit sparked polarized reactions online. Critics condemned the Royal Family for hosting a “convicted felon,” while supporters hailed the meeting as historic and a chance for impactful global decisions. The clash between Trump and Khan, along with Starmer’s diplomatic response, highlighted the complexities of international relations and the personal dynamics that can shape political discourse.
