Tanya Roberts, famed for her roles in Charlie’s Angels and That ’70s Show, left behind a deeply personal handwritten will that stunned many. In the document, she bequeathed her entire estate—including a $3 million Hollywood Hills home, pension funds, and pets—to her longtime partner Lance O’Brien. The note included haunting words: “I know you don’t love me but you have been a true friend and for that I’m grateful,” and “I have no reason to live,” revealing emotional turmoil in her final days.
Roberts explicitly excluded her sister Barbara Leary and nephew Zack from the will, prompting Leary to contest its validity. The will also requested that O’Brien care for her two dogs and goldfish, with specific instructions to find a “fish lover” if he ever sold the house.
Her death in January 2021 was surrounded by confusion—initially announced prematurely while she was still alive in ICU. She collapsed on Christmas Eve and was later diagnosed with complications from a UTI, leading to liver and kidney failure. Despite the drama, Roberts’ handwritten will—known as a holographic will under California law—was verified and filed in Los Angeles, leaving behind a legacy as dramatic as her screen roles.
