Vice President-elect JD Vance underwent a minor sinus surgery on January 3, 2025, just weeks before his scheduled inauguration alongside President-elect Donald Trump. The procedure, described as “long-planned,” took place at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and was not considered an emergency. Vance’s spokesperson confirmed he would return to work the following day, indicating a smooth recovery.
Earlier that day, Vance attended the Senate swearing-in ceremony, supporting newly elected Republican senators Bernie Moreno of Ohio and Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania. He shared his congratulations on social media, expressing pride in standing with them during the event.
At 40, Vance is set to become the youngest vice president since Richard Nixon. He currently serves as a senator from Ohio and has not yet announced his resignation date. Once he steps down, Governor Mike DeWine will appoint a temporary replacement until a special election in November determines who will complete Vance’s term, which ends in 2028.
Despite the timing of the surgery, Vance’s team emphasized that it would not interfere with his duties or the upcoming inauguration. His quick return to work reassured supporters that he remains fit and ready to assume office.
