Sue arrived at Bath Cats and Dogs Home on a sunny day in August 2017, a tiny bundle of fur with big, hopeful eyes and a heart full of puppy love. Rescued from uncertain circumstances, she quickly won the hearts of the staff and volunteers with her gentle demeanor and playful spirit. Everyone at the shelter believed it wouldn’t be long before Sue found her forever home, but fate had different plans in store.
Four years have passed since that day, and Sue is still patiently waiting for a family to call her own. For most of her young life, Sue has known the routines and comforts of shelter life, a place where she has received care, love, and plenty of attention. Despite her endearing personality and sweet temperament, Sue’s journey to adoption has been marked by both hope and disappointment. Though she was briefly adopted in 2018, circumstances beyond her control led to her return to the shelter, leaving Sue once again in search of stability and love.
Rachel Jones, the dedicated chief executive of Bath Cats and Dogs Home, expressed the collective puzzlement of the shelter staff over Sue’s extended stay. “We’re all puzzled as to why dear Sue hasn’t found her forever home yet,” Jones shared in a heartfelt press release. “She’s adored by everyone here, enjoys long walks and plenty of affection, but what she truly needs is a place to call her own.”
Throughout her time at the shelter, Sue has watched as 941 other animals found their new families, each adoption bringing renewed hope that her turn would soon come. Despite the setbacks, the staff and volunteers remain steadfast in their belief that the perfect family will one day walk through the shelter doors and choose Sue, giving her the loving home she deserves.
While Sue has some behavioral quirks, she has made remarkable progress through ongoing training efforts. “Sue is a bright and affectionate pup who can get a bit excited at times, so she would benefit from owners who can continue her training,” Jones explained. “She loves nothing more than cuddling on the sofa and playing with her toys, always eager to meet new friends. However, we believe she would thrive best as the only pet in an adult-only household, where she can receive undivided attention.”
Despite her challenges, Sue has already mastered basic commands like ‘sit’ and ‘paw,’ demonstrating her intelligence and eagerness to learn more. She enjoys keeping herself entertained but would appreciate a new owner who can initially spend ample time with her. In moments of overwhelm, Sue seeks a quiet space to relax and recharge, ideally with access to a secure garden where she can explore and play safely.
At the shelter, Sue has forged many friendships with staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to make each day special for her. They know her favorite spots to be scratched and the toys that bring out her playful side. Yet, they all recognize that what Sue truly longs for is a loving family who can offer her the stability, love, and security she deserves.
“It’s time for Sue to embark on a new chapter with a caring family who can provide her with the love and stability she deserves,” Jones concluded, her voice filled with hope and determination. “She has waited patiently for so long, and we are committed to finding the perfect match for her.”
As they wait for that special family to come along, the staff at Bath Cats and Dogs Home continue to shower Sue with love and attention. They organize regular outings for her, where she can stretch her legs and enjoy the outdoors. They enrich her days with stimulating activities and play sessions, ensuring that Sue remains happy and healthy while she waits for her forever home.
In the shelter, Sue has become a beloved fixture, known for her affectionate nature and gentle soul. Her story has touched the hearts of many in the community, drawing attention to the plight of animals like her who are still waiting for their second chance. Each day brings renewed hope that Sue’s perfect match is just around the corner, ready to open their hearts and home to a deserving pup who has waited so patiently for her happily ever after.
