10-year-girl is granted last wish of marrying her childhood sweetheart just days before passing

The moment we become parents, our lives transform in profound and indescribable ways. We dedicate ourselves to caring for, cherishing, and worrying about the new life we have brought into the world. Unfortunately, there are some things no parent can control, such as accidents and illness. Each year, many children suffer from situations beyond their control.

For Alina and Aaron Edwards, their world was turned upside down when they discovered that their nine-year-old daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite their heartbreak, they held onto the hope that Emma could beat cancer. However, after months of treatment, doctors delivered the devastating news that there was nothing more they could do to save her.

Determined to make the most of the time they had left with Emma, her parents focused on fulfilling her wishes. While many children in such circumstances might dream of meeting a celebrity or going to Disneyland, Emma had a unique request: she wanted to marry her boyfriend, DJ, who was also just ten years old.

Emma’s wish quickly garnered attention in her community, leading to the formation of “Emma’s Army,” a group of volunteers dedicated to making her dream a reality. The Make-A-Wish Foundation also stepped in to assist with fundraising efforts. According to Emma’s mother, Alina, “Most kids want to go to Disneyland, but Emma wanted to get married, be a wife, and have three kids.”

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time Emma and DJ had tried to marry. They had previously attempted a wedding at school when they were eight years old, complete with chosen bridesmaids and groomsmen. Unfortunately, their teacher wouldn’t allow it. This time, however, their parents and community rallied to make the dream come true.

In just two days, everything for the wedding was donated and organized. Emma wore a beautiful purple dress, and her father escorted her down the aisle in her wheelchair. Emma and DJ exchanged rings and vows, sealing their ceremony with a kiss.

Tragically, just a few weeks after her special day, Emma passed away on July 11, 2023. Her obituary described her as a light to everyone who knew her and an inspiration to all she met. Emma, who loved arts and crafts, practical jokes, and her “husband” DJ, left behind a legacy of strength, humor, and boundless love.

Rest in peace, Emma. You were a beautiful soul taken far too soon. Let’s all send thoughts and prayers to those who are fighting cancer and their families.
